CIRCA: 1946 -1960.
Established in 1946, Belmore Sydney Australia; Pates Pottery Pty Ltd was acclaimed to be one of Australia’s major commercial potteries post-war, producing beautifully decorative pottery that featured national flora and fauna.
Featured, is a highly collectible piece of Australian cultural history.
Made from a classic ‘slip-casting’ technique, with a ruffled/crumpled, clam/trough design.
Gorgeous blended tones of ‘sky-blue’ and white glaze.
Oval flat solid base with a wide elongated ruffled top rim.
Printed backstamp identification trademark on the underside base that reads ‘PATES POTTERY SYDNEY AUSTRALIA’.
Measurements:
L x 26.5 top rim
W x 9 cm top rim
H x 12.5 cm
Condition:
Age-related, vintage rough glaze spots on the top rim that can only be recognised through touch. Also, 3 small glaze chips on the outer top rim.
Some internal base crazing and small spots of discolouration on the inside of the vase only. Also small chip on the inside of the vase, (please refer to photos).
Otherwise, the vase is in excellent vintage condition with no damage.
There are no cracks, repairs or surface wear to the glaze and apart from the small amount of crazing to the internal base, there is no other crazing. The external glaze is still very glossy and looks superb.
Beautiful iconic Australian pottery.
